The basics

Welcome to Shadow

What sets Shadow apart from the original Rappelz — and nothing else.

This guide gathers everything that sets Shadow Rappelz apart from the original game: rates, house rules, added zones, and the items and NPCs that exist nowhere else.

Everything else works like classic Rappelz. Anything not written here has not been changed.

The same help is available in game: press H. It is re-read every time you open it, so it is always up to date without reinstalling anything.

Server rates

The multipliers, and the party experience rule that changes everything.

GainMultiplier
Experience×2
Items dropped by monsters×4
Gold dropped by monsters×3
Quest rewards×4
Pet cards×1 (original rate)
Chaos fragments×1 (original rate)
Max level200

PARTY EXPERIENCE IS FLAT. This is the server's single most important quirk: every party member earns exactly what they would have earned alone, whether you are 2 or 8. There is no party bonus and no party penalty.

In other words, playing together never dilutes your experience, and nobody is penalised because the party is full. The only point of a party is to kill faster, kill higher, and survive.

Death

You no longer lose items or durability. Only experience is still at stake.

Death has been made far gentler on Shadow. What you no longer lose:

  • No item at all. Neither worn gear nor bag contents: the roll was removed.
  • No durability. The −10 % penalty on worn gear and on belt cards is set to zero, for you and for your pets.

Direct consequence: the Fairy Lock has nothing left to protect. It is no longer consumed and no longer does anything. Do not buy it.

What you do still lose: experience. The death experience penalty was kept on purpose.

  • Your buffs and beneficial states survive death, as do your toggle skills. Only harmful states are removed.
  • Your summoned pet stays with you but goes inert: put it away and summon it again for it to fight on.

Durability and repair

Durability is gone. Nothing wears down and nothing breaks.

All five sources of wear from the original game have been set to zero:

  • gem wear on auto-attack
  • gem wear when casting a skill
  • gem wear when you take a hit
  • ethereal durability wear
  • the −10 % penalty on every death, by far the largest

You therefore no longer need repair powder, a hammer, or a trip to the blacksmith. The items that used to repair gear are still in the game but serve no purpose.

If an item in your inventory still shows durability eaten away before this change, it is frozen: it will not drop any further.

Loot: the rules

The ×4 applies to the percentage — and a 15-level gap cancels everything.

Two rules decide what drops, and they surprise people often.

1. THE ×4 MULTIPLIER APPLIES TO THE TABLE PERCENTAGE. An item listed at 0.5 % therefore really drops at 2 %. The roll inside a group of items — which exact piece you get — is not multiplied: it stays evenly weighted.

2. THE LEVEL GAP CAN CANCEL LOOT ENTIRELY. If you kill a monster far below you, loot melts away:

Level gapLoot received
up to 10100 %
1180 %
1260 %
1340 %
1420 %
15 or moreNOTHING

Farming far below your level therefore yields nothing at all. The other way round, above you, loot is not the limit — your accuracy is: the genuinely profitable band at end game sits between levels 190 and 205.

Loot goes straight into your inventory; no looter pet is needed.

Skill cards (CCB)

Putting a class skill onto a Governor armour piece.

Skill Cards let you place a class skill onto a Governor armour piece. Where to find them:

Goblin Chief, Goblin Kingdom≈ 19 %
The 3 Lawless Land bosses2 %
The 3 Guild Mine bosses2 %
The Chaos Phoenix2 %

A full Colosseum run yields around 50 cards as loot, plus 15 from tier rewards. Ordinary goblins only drop PCSA, never cards.

UPGRADING A CARD: in the Combination window, the main card, a Skill Cube and a second identical card. The Ancient Cube is far more reliable than the ordinary one.

Add a Protection Card and the main card survives failure; the other components are consumed anyway.

Shadow universal belt

The racial bonus against every race at once.

The Shadow universal belt is the server's ultimate belt: it carries the racial bonus against EVERY race at once, where a classic Yushiva belt covers only one.

  • 20 % damage reduction against each race, not cumulative: only one race counts at a time, your opponent's.
  • 20 % extra damage dealt against all races.
  • +1 to all your skills.
  • The stats and set bonus of the Yushiva belt.

HOW TO GET IT: at the Yushiva Forge in Horizon. The NPC takes all NINE racial Yushiva stones and returns the Shadow universal stone. The nine stones are: Angel, Mortal, Demon, Undead, Beast, Ain, Mecca, Dragon, Ancient. They drop in game, and are also sold by Vulcanos's Servant for 50 Gold Coins each.

WORTH KNOWING: the BASE Yushiva belt no longer grants any racial bonus on Shadow. No “Spirit” stone exists — that bonus was only a hard-coded leftover. The base keeps its stats, its set and its +1 to skills; all racial bonus now comes from the stones.

Item awakening

Random bonus lines, and a way to reroll just one.

Awakening adds random bonus lines to an item, on top of its normal options.

  • It is done in the Combination window, with an Awakening Stone matching the item type.
  • There is one stone per family: weapons and shields, armour, accessories.
  • An awakened item can be reset with the matching scroll.
  • The number of lines depends on the stone: at most five with the original Awakening Stones, six to seven with Awakening Stones II.

Reroll Stones I to VII reroll A SINGLE awakening line — the first, the second, and so on depending on the stone — leaving every other line untouched. No more starting over for one bad line.

Awakening Stones II and Reroll Stones drop in the Dungeon of Hope, and are also available in the website shop, under Craft.

Emblems

Twenty-one emblems, one and the same bonus.

Emblems go in a dedicated slot, on top of your normal gear. Every emblem handed out gives exactly the same bonus:

  • +5 to the seven base stats
  • +3 % Attack and Magic Attack

They differ only in look and name. There are twenty-one of them.

BEWARE OLD TOOLTIPS: some emblems long displayed ghost bonuses inherited from the original game — a “Critical Power +25 %” that never did anything. The descriptions have been fixed; if you still see an odd bonus, it is a client that has not finished updating.

Costumes, capes and wings

Over 500 looks, and the button that shows your real armour.

The server's cosmetic catalogue covers armour, helmet, gloves, boots, cape and wings.

  • Over 500 different looks are available.
  • Mystery box costumes are tradable between players.
  • Wings and costumes made for Shadow have been added, along with the Deco Sets, whose bonus is carried by the piece itself.
  • Governor sets have their own bonus line.

The “Show / Hide Decorations” button in the equipment window shows your real armour instead of the costume.

Items made for Shadow

Town Return, the Buff Sphere, the Lava Elixir and the house boss cards.

  • TOWN RETURN: a permanent item, one per character, that teleports you to the return point you set. It is given at character creation.
  • BUFF SPHERE: applies in one click the twenty-nine buffs from Colosseum Crystals and Potions, the Ancestral Extreme Stone, Purified Stones and Altered Fragments. Duration standardised at two hours. It affects the player, not the pet.
  • LAVA ELIXIR: +10 % Attack, Magic Attack, Luck, Movement Speed, Accuracy and Magic Accuracy, for thirty minutes.
  • GUILD SCROLL: available in the shop.
  • HOUSE BOSS CARDS: the Shadow Phoenix and the Summoner have their own cards.
  • PET APPEARANCE POTION: target a monster, double-click the empty potion to capture its look, then apply the filled flask to your summoned pet. A second double-click restores its original look.

Zones and dungeons

Lawless Land

PK field: only your party protects you.

The Lawless Land takes up the whole southern half of the Dark Dungeon block. It is a PK field: anyone can attack you, and ONLY YOUR PARTY PROTECTS YOU.

Three bosses are planted there. They are visually different copies, but all carry Yushiva's combat stats: expect a serious fight.

  • a skeleton rider
  • an Osiris-type undead
  • an Abhuva-type mechanical

Each drops Skill Cards at 2 %. The rest of the block — the mine and the guild house — is not a PK zone.

Colosseum

One hundred waves, solo, from level 160.

  • Entry from level 160, through either of the two gates.
  • Parties are refused at the door: this is a personal challenge.
  • One hundred waves: nine monster waves then a guardian, ten times over.
  • Difficulty climbs from level 165 to 205 across the tiers.
  • Monsters give no skill points: this is not the place to farm JP.
  • Loot tables here are exclusive.

REWARDS: a package every ten tiers, dropped straight into your bag with its contents announced. It holds tradable Taming Shields, Ancient Force and Defence Cubes, the four energies, the Juicy Tomato and Giant Nail pair for evolving pets, Blessed Repair Powder, PCSA and Skill Cards.

The ten tower guardians each give five guaranteed Skill Cards, drawn at random from the fifteen classes. A Scoreboard can be consulted in Horizon.

Parallel World

Free portal — no pass, no level requirement, no party.

The Parallel World is an instanced dungeon of six boss waves, in two versions.

FREE ACCESS: on Shadow the Special Investigators open the portal without asking for a pass, without a level requirement and without a party. They stand in all five towns: Laksy, Katan, Horizon, Ruined City and Hidden Village. The one-hour re-investigation buff comes with it.

The free portal leads to the first version. The second is reached through its dedicated quest, which consumes a temporary pass. LOOT: Governor bags and PCSA drop here, and Parallel World loot has been doubled.

Dungeon of Hope

Level 190, Devildom 6 stats, doubled density.

The Dungeon of Hope has been raised to level 190, with Devildom tier 6 stats and twice the monster density.

What dropsNormal monstersRare
Awakening Stones II2.5 %7.5 %
Reroll Stones I to VII0.5 %1.5 %
Gold Ingot1 %1 %

The Hope-Bearer set also drops here.

WHAT WAS REMOVED: all ethereal gear, and the Ice Pack. The loot list went from over three thousand items down to one hundred and twenty: what drops now actually has value.

Devildom

Six tiers, ten floors each — and it is defence that stops you, not hit points.

Devildom has six tiers, first to sixth, ten floors each. The first tier follows on from the Ancient Ruins, at the level of the Crystal Witches. Doors open automatically.

IMPORTANT POINT ON DIFFICULTY: monster hit points are capped by the game engine, a little above two billion. High-tier bosses are therefore already at the ceiling. What actually makes Devildom hard is DEFENCE, not the health bar: without enough attack, your hits fall to the damage floor and nothing moves. Raise your attack before raising your tier.

Reviac, Devildom Master, guards the sixth tier and drops Skill Cards at 2 %.

Other dungeons

Bears, Arachnid, Ruins, Vulcanos, Cubric, Shadow Challenge.

  • BEAR DEN: the timed competitive dungeon. Twenty-five minutes per run, twelve entries a day. The point cap was lifted: you can farm until the timer runs out instead of stalling halfway.
  • BURNING ARACHNID CIRCUS: a four-floor instanced dungeon. The fourth gathers the Lions, Pierrots and Harlequins, with Mephisto, Lilith and the Demented Spirit.
  • ANCIENT RUINS: not an instance but a field zone, populated by Crystallines from level 180 to 192. The witches' hall holds three bosses: Grand Master Hecktor, the Crystal Golem (magic only — its physical defence is enormous) and the Bloodthirsty Murderer.
  • HIDDEN RUINS: the hard version of the Ancient Ruins, added on this server.
  • VULCANOS LAIR: a solo instance with nineteen difficulty tiers, four floors each. The tier is suggested at the door based on your level, with two notches above it if you want.
  • CUBRIC: a classic instanced dungeon.
  • SHADOW CHALLENGE: the reward is a title.

Added maps

Whole zones that do not exist in the original game.

  • DARK DUNGEON: reached from Horizon. It holds the southern pit (Lawless Land), the guild house and the maze where the Guild Mine sits.
  • TWILIGHT HELLS: a teleport-access zone.
  • ANGMAR HELL: fifteen monster nests, with Tiragoni, Valaebal and a Chaos Phoenix. Difficulty was doubled and the zone fully repopulated. The Chaos Phoenix drops Skill Cards at 2 %.
  • GOBLIN KINGDOM: fifteen level tiers, from level 10 to level 290. Goblin Chiefs drop Skill Cards about 19 % of the time; ordinary goblins only drop PCSA.
  • NEW CITY and HALLOWEEN DEN round out the list, the latter with close to two hundred monsters from level 61 to 170.

Living on the server

Pets

They inherit your buffs and your Luck, and no longer wear down.

  • They inherit your buffs: a buff you take also benefits the summoned pet.
  • They inherit your Luck.
  • They inherit world boss buffs during events.
  • They suffer no durability loss at all, death included.
  • Ranged pets were fixed: their attack correctly follows Dexterity and Agility.

PET IN A BELT SLOT: a pet placed in a belt slot grants its bonuses through the passive skills it has learned. Percentage passives arrive at level 40 for stats, at level 90 for attack and defence. Each bonus channel is capped at 30 % in total.

Pet renaming is available from the Summoners, in all five towns.

Guild

Private house, instanced mine and a coloured name.

  • NAME COLOUR: your guild name can carry a colour.
  • GUILD HOUSE: the south-west pit of the Dark Dungeon. Each guild lands in its own space, invisible to the others. No guild, no entry.
  • GUILD MINE: one private instance per guild, set in the Dark Dungeon maze. You mine ore veins that respawn elsewhere each time, which stops anyone camping a spot. Deposited ore raises the guild's mine level.
  • The Guild Mine Manager handles the entrance, the bank, the auction house and the buff.
  • The three Guild Mine bosses drop Skill Cards at 2 %.

Events

At the City Siege, the prize goes to everyone who landed a hit.

CITY SIEGE: three genies spawn at each of the eighteen spawn points. THE PRIZE GOES TO EVERYONE WHO LANDED A HIT, not only to whoever strikes last — a single hit is enough. Pets tag the target in their master's name. Big wins are announced server-wide.

  • WORLD BOSSES: their buffs are inherited by your pets.
  • BLOODY HECKTOR: an event boss, not to be confused with Grand Master Hecktor of the Ancient Ruins.

Useful NPCs

Who does what, and where to find them.

  • TALENT MASTER, Hidden Village: sells three talent points for gold, one per tier and once per character. Five billion for the first, seven and a half billion for the second, ten billion for the third.
  • PCSA EXCHANGE, Horizon: hand over any two PCSA, receive a PCSA of the class you want.
  • YUSHIVA FORGE, Horizon: trades the nine racial stones for the Shadow universal stone.
  • VULCANOS'S SERVANT: sells the nine racial Yushiva stones at 50 Gold Coins each, and keeps the entrance to the Vulcanos Lair. He stands in two places, the Hidden Village and town.
  • SPECIAL INVESTIGATORS, in all five towns: free portal to the Parallel World.
  • SUMMONERS, in all five towns: pet renaming.
  • CLASS PROMOTERS: beyond class change, they offer AUTOMATIC SKILL LEVELLING. It raises the race pages and the first and second class pages, spending your skill points as normal. The master class page is left alone.
  • SHADOW LOTTERY: one free try per account per day, reset at midnight. You can win Juicy Tomatoes, Giant Nails, 50 or 100 Shadow Coins, and a 200 Shadow Coins jackpot announced server-wide.
  • GUILD MINE MANAGER: mine entrance, bank, auction house and buff.
  • JB THE MAGNIFICENT: trades items for coins, card boxes and cubes.

Shop and Shadow Coins

Two currencies, delivery to the cash inventory, automatic refund.

The shop lives on the server website. It takes two currencies: Vote Points, earned by voting for the server, and Shadow Coins.

What you buy is delivered to the in-game CASH INVENTORY, the “shop” tab. Any character on the account can pick it up. If delivery fails, you are refunded automatically.

A Boss Cards tab is available.

Gold and trading

A hundred-billion cap, and the purchase block fixed.

GOLD CAP: the carried-gold limit is one hundred billion. Above it, the server used to refuse your PURCHASES with “not enough money”, which made no sense. That block has been fixed: spending works whatever the size of your pile.

  • STACKING: items meant to stack do stack. If you hold old separate stacks of the same item, they predate the fix and will not merge.
  • AUCTION HOUSE: reachable from the Guild Mine Manager on top of the usual spots.
  • PERSONAL SHOP: it only opens in the zones meant for it, the Horizon Bazaar among them.

  • CAMERA ZOOM-OUT: camera distance was raised well beyond the original limit.

  • CHAT CENSORSHIP: the word filter is the client's own. If it bothers you, you can switch it off on your side.

Reporting a problem

What to write down so we can reproduce it.

If something does not work the way it is described here:

  • note what you were doing, where you were and at what time
  • if the game closed, say so: crash reports are readable on our side
  • go through the server website or Discord

This guide is updated alongside the server. If a section looks wrong or incomplete to you, report it: it will be fixed in the next patch, with nothing for you to reinstall.
